Valentine’s day

The month of February is celebrated around the world as soon as the calendar shows the date as 1st. Just about, every second person in the world associates its importance with love. Just like the way Paris has an eternal bond with the emotion of love same in the way February has, especially the 14th of this month. Yes, I am talking about the Valentine’s Day!

This Valentine Day is unethical and immoral by all means. Boys and girls across the globe irrespective of their religion especially Muslims celebrate this very day eagerly. Islam follows a strict Shariyah (rules and regulations related to relationships and boundaries among opposite gender). Boys give presents and flowers to their Namehram (restricted ladies), share their personal feelings and views on their likeness of their beloveds – the same Namehram. Such crowd behavior results in emergence of a profane society where relationships lose their high opinion. Al-Tirmidhi once narrated that Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه reported that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said: “He is not one of us who imitates other than us. Do not imitate the Jews or the Christians.

In Islam women are respected for their grace and hidden beauty whereas this Valentine’s Day persuades young and adult to indulge in an emotional and at times physical involvement which is Zina (unlawful sexual commitment). Saint Valentine was never in favor of spreading love; but was a wicked and corrupt Churchman who was involved in sex trafficking.

This Valentine Day is not the only non-Islamic celebration that is becoming part of our Islamic society. Halloween’s day is another new day that has gained popularity in our environs. People get themselves dressed in scary and dirty outfits, wear makeup that can make their face resembling to some zombie or vampire and enjoy getting their fellows afraid of their presence around. Such an out casting deed is strictly forbidden in Islam. But, we Muslins feel ourselves comfortable being part of such festivals.

Christmas celebrations as well are now getting common sight in Islamic countries. Though we believe in Hazrat Essa (Juses) and His teachings but deeming him as God’s son is ‘Shirk‘ i.e. making someone Allah’s partner – is strictly prohibited in Islam. And Christian’s in the real sense are ‘Mushrikun‘ i.e. those who commit shirk”. Celebrating Christmas and wishing others ‘Merry Christmas‘ – which literally means “God bore a son”– is one of the greatest sins a Muslim can ever perform. Nonetheless, we enjoy such festivals and have completely forgotten God’s own revelation stated in Surah Ikhlas:

“Say: He is Allah, the One and Only! Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him” (Holy Qur’an 112:1-4)

Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Teacher’s Day, Grandparent’s Day etc all are celebrated officially in almost every other Muslim state. Because of these non-Muslim festivities, people have limited their adoration and appreciation of their loved ones to be expressed only on these ‘special occasions‘. All these, and many other such non-Islamic celebrations have taken over the significance of our Islamic ceremonies.

We need to clean our society from these things, so one can live peaceful Islamic life, and die as Muslim.
